Doorstep Delivery of Government Services: Delhi

Are we in dreams? Do you know, why am I asking this question?

Before answering the question, I would like to share a story with you guys. This story is related to me. I am talking about those days when the creation of Aadhar card just started in India. I lived in Delhi and one day, I woke up early in the morning around 3 a.m. and went to the Aadhar center around 4’o clock in the morning. I stood in the queue and there were already more than 50 peoples in the queue. I stood over there throughout the day and at the end of the day, I was not able to get my Aadhar card due to the chaotic situation at Aadhar center.

Doorstep Delivery of Government Services

If someone will come to my home and help me to get government documents like ration card, voter ID card, Ration Card, Driving License etc. at home, then it looks like dream only. This dream has become the reality now. Thanks to the Delhi Government led by Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, the CM of Delhi. The Delhi government has launched a scheme of doorstep delivery of approx. 40 government services like caste and marriage certificates, Driving License, new water connection etc. in the 2nd week of September. Under this scheme, no citizen of Delhi would have to stand in queues for the services listed and it is expected to make huge impact on the middle class in the national capital.

Doorstep Delivery of Government Services

What is the home delivery of public services?

After reading the story, it is very clear that availing the public services is a very hectic process. It requires both time and energy.  The major reasons behind such lethargic services are long queues, mismanagement of the process and many more. To address the problem, The Delhi government has started a very good initiative to launch the doorstep delivery of all public services. To facilitate this service, Mobile Sahayaks will visit the applicant’s house and collect all the required documents for a nominal fee.  They will be equipped with necessary machines such as biometric devices and a camera.

What are the services covered under this scheme?

Under this scheme, services which are included are Caste certificate, Registration of marriage certificate, Delhi family benefit certificate, Duplicate registration certificate, Learner’s license, Driver’s license, Change in name/address in driver’s license or RC, Old age pension scheme, New water connection, New sewer connection etc.

Doorstep Delivery of Government Services

What is the process to avail this scheme?

This service is available to all the residents of Delhi. If you want to avail of this service, just make a call on 1076 and fix an appointment to get the desired service. By making call on this number, you will also get the information related to required documents required to avail this service. On the scheduled day or time, an executive will visit your house to get the work completed. A very nominal fee of INR 50 will be charged for availing the service at your home.

What is the history of National Technology Day?

National Technology day is one of the important days in the history of India. It is a national event observed every year on 11 may to remind the anniversary of the nuclear test conducted in pokhran in 1998. On 11 may 1998, India successfully tested the Shakti-1 nuclear missile at the pokhran and after two days, two more nuclear missiles successfully tested at the same place. The entire operation was led by our late president Dr. APJ Adbul Kalam. On the successful testing of multiple missiles, the prime minister of India Late Atal Bihari Bajpai declared India a nuclear state making it the sixth country to join the club of nuclear nations.

What is the theme of Earth day 2019?

Earth day is the annual event celebrated worldwide on 22nd April every year. On every year, one theme is decided for earth day and the theme of 2019 earth day is to protect and save all the species. The Earth Day, founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson. He had been a witness to the devastation caused by an enormous oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969 propounded the idea to celebrate the earth day.

theme of Earth day 2019

The first earth day was organized in 1970 to promote natural balance and respect for life on the planet as well as to encourage awareness of the growing problems of air, water, and soil pollution. On the International earth day, various environmental issues like pollution of the ocean, debris left over on land, climate change, conservation of the Earth’s ecosystems, energy conservation, soil corruption, corrosion, overpopulation, nuclear issues, the depletion of the ozone layer, the depletion of the Earth’s natural resources etc. are addressed.

The protection of environment is our top most priority and owing to this, Paris agreement has also done. It is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) focuses on the protection of environment. In December 2015 at the Paris climate conference, 195 countries adopted the first-ever universal, legally binding global action plan to put the world on track to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C.

Theme for Earth Day 2019

The theme for earth day 2018 was to end the plastic pollution and the theme of this year (2019) earth day is to protect and save all the species. In order to maintain a healthy ecological balance on this planet, all other species such as animals, plants and marine are as important as humans.  All species on this planet has a unique place in food chain that contributes to the ecosystem in its own way. The extinction of species occurs either due to the naturally occurring activities and or due to the human activities. The most common natural activities affecting the species are climate change, change in sea levels etc. Human activities like fishing, hunting, cut down of forests, use of fertilizers in the land;  etc. are the main reason for the extinction of these species.

theme of Earth day 2019

We already saw the extinction of several species like the white Cheetah, Dinosaur, Dodo, Passenger Pigeon etc and several others animals are very close to see the extinction. Most common animals are rhinos, elephants, lions, tigers, leopard, jaguars, whales, sharks etc. It is necessary to take the strict action to save wildlife; otherwise, the time will come soon when they will find a place only on the list of extinct species. The extinction of such species will impact the human life as well so it becomes the responsibility of every human being to save the wildlife, our planet and most importantly, our own selves.

theme of Earth day 2019

As discussed above, protection of animals and other species are very important for maintaining the ecological balance of the environment. Human are accountable for the protection of these species and to support the theme of 2019 earth day, here are few suggestions to protect the wildlife.

• The loss of habitat is one of the biggest causes of extinction so preserving the wildlife is our primary responsibility. Campaign against deforestation and create a healthy place for wildlife species as well.

• Spend some time with animals and know about them. It is well known fact that, once you start loving them, you will start protecting them as well.

• Minimize the use of pesticides and herbicides as these pollutants are dangerous for animals.

theme of Earth day 2019

• Avoid buying the products made from animal skin and its parts.

•  Shooting, trapping or forcing endangered animals into custody is also illegal and can lead to their extinction. Don’t participate in such activities.

It is not important whether we understand the importance of earth day or not but the important thing is that we have only one place to live i.e. our Mother Earth. It is all about the personal responsibility we all have to share “think globally and act locally”.  Our planet is in great crisis due to global warming, overpopulation, plastic pollution, different types of pollution and other critical environmental issues. Every person on this earth has the responsibility to do as much as possible to preserve the finite natural’s resources available not only for us but also for the future generations.

To support the objective of earth day and the theme of 2019 earth day, it become mandatory to think about the environment otherwise we have to face the extreme harsh conditions of environment.

Why should we obey traffic rules?

Road safety is emerging as a major social concern in the country and obey the traffic rules become the necessity of these days. In India, more than 150000 peoples are killed in the road accidents every year. Everyday peoples are dying on the roads due to reckless driving, over speeding, not wearing seat belt or helmet, drunk while driving etc.  The biggest mistake that we all do is to blame the government for all such road accidents.

Being a responsible citizen, what are we doing to stop all these road accidents? Do we wear seat belt or helmet while driving? Do we not jump the red light? There are several questions strikes in our mind whenever we think about road accidents. One such question is how we can solve the problem of road accidents. The simplest answer to this question is to obey the traffic rules.

Here in this post, we are sharing traffic rules that need to be followed to stop all such accidents.

• It is always advisable to carry all the documents while driving. It includes licence, vehicle registration, pollution paper, permit etc.

Always wear your seat belt whenever you drive your Car. Wear the helmet when rides the two-wheelers. It is one of the basic traffic rules that need to be obeyed.

•  Follow all the traffic signals like traffic lights, over speed limit, no entry signal, all types of turns like left, right, U-turn etc. Always use the indicator while making the turn.

• If there is only single lane for the traffic of both sides, then drive to the left-hand side of the road and allow the opposite vehicles to pass on the right-hand side.

• If you want to overtake another vehicle, always do only from the right-hand side only. On the other hand, if another vehicle is looking to overtake your vehicle, allow them and give them passage to overtake.

• Don’t drive the vehicle after drinking.

• Don’t drive the vehicle in the zigzag direction. Also, avoid over speeding and reckless driving.

• It is always advisable to keep some distance from the vehicle in front of you. Sometimes situation arises to stop the vehicle suddenly and in such circumstances, this distance helps you to avoid all unnecessary hazards.

• The vehicle with overloading is always dangerous on the road. It is always advisable to avoid such situations.

• Use the horn and the lights of the vehicle wisely.

• Always take extra precautions while approaching road merger, intersections or a crossing. Make sure your vehicle does not cause any inconvenience to other vehicles.

• Emergency vehicles like ambulance, fire vehicles, police vehicles etc. must be allowed free passage and it is the responsibility of other drivers to allow them passage.

Here, I would like to share a story of one of my close friend who had lost his life due to the careless driving of another person. My friend was used to work for the welfare of women. He was fighting against the female molestation. One day when he finished his rally, he was standing on the footpath and discussing about the next event with his friends. In the meantime, one car came and collides with them. In this accident, my friend had lost his life and his two friends injured seriously. You know what the fault of car driver was. The car driver tried to overtake another vehicle from the left and suddenly found these three persons standing on the footpath. The life of my friend would have saved if the car driver had followed the traffic rules.

Point to remember, your life is very important for your friend, family; relatives etc. and think about them before violating traffic rules or taking risk of your life.

The problem of road accidents cannot be solved if we do not stop the violation of traffic rules. It depends upon all of us plus the government as well. Being a responsible citizen, let us take the pledge and start following traffic rules.

How the LED lights better for environment?

Light is one of the great discoveries of all time done by the scientist. The credit for the invention of lights goes to Thomson Edison.  The most common types of lights are incandescent lamps, gas-discharge lamps & LED lamps.  LED lights are widely used across the world and it has the potential to change the future of lighting in India.

LED lights are better for the environment as it offers several advantages not only to the end consumer but also to the environment as well. The two biggest environmental advantages of LED lights are its low energy consumption and long life. Due to these advantages, fewer LED lamps need to be produced, packaged, transported, used and ultimately disposed of in comparison of CFLs and incandescent lamps.

LED lights better for environment

It is one of the most energy efficient and continuously developing technologies and due to several advantages of LED lights, it is widely used in miscellaneous applications such as lighting, indicator in electronic appliances, automobiles, traffic signals etc.

LED lights better for environment

What is LED

Light emitting diode (LED) is very well suited for the environment. It is a semiconductor device which produces the light when the electric current passed through it. It is an electrical light source that allows the flow of electric current in one direction only.  It is a two lead semiconductor device that emits light when activated. When suitable currents pass through the leads, electrons are able to recombine with holes releasing the energy in the form of visible light (Photons).

LED lights better for environment

There are several materials used in the making of LED lights and the most commonly used materials listed below.

•  Indium gallium nitride (InGaN) is used to produce blue, green and ultraviolet high-brightness LEDs.
•  Gallium phosphide (GaP) is used to produce yellow and green LEDs.
•  Aluminum gallium arsenide (AlGaAs) is used to produce red and infrared LEDs.
•  Aluminum gallium indium phosphide (AlGaInP) is used to produce yellow, orange and red high-brightness LEDs.

Properties of LED Lights

LED lighting is very different from other lighting sources such as incandescent bulbs and CFLs and characteristics of LED lights are as follows.

•  The power of LED light is generally calculated in lumens, rather than watts. The higher the number of lumens, the more white light the bulb will emit.

•  LED lights provide a broad range of colour temperatures and options. Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin and the range of the temperature lies between 2700~6000 K.  If the temperature is near to 3000K, then it provides a yellowish hue, similar to the incandescent light bulb. On the other hand, if it close to 6000K, then the light of the colour would be cool white.

•  Colour Rendering Index or CRI is used to measure how well a light source renders colours. The scale of measuring CRI is 0~100 and if it is more than 80, then it is widely acceptable in the industry.

Advantages of LED Light over Traditional Light

LED lights are better for the environment and there are several advantages of LED lights. We are listing a few advantages of LED lights are as follows.

•  LED lights are energy efficient over traditional lights such as fluorescent and incandescent lights. More than 90% of the electricity is converted into light while only close to 5~10% electricity wasted as heat.

•  LED lights require less power for operation as high wattage traditional lights can be replaced by low wattage LED lights and there would be no change in the output of the light. The less use of energy demand less power from power plants hence decreases the emissions of greenhouse gases.

•  LED lights do not contain any toxic elements like mercury. LED lights are better for the environment as it helps us in protecting the environment from toxic waste produce by traditional lights.

•  The durability of LED lights is quite more and it requires very little maintenance in comparison of traditional lights.

•  The burning hour of LED light is very high thereby reducing the requirement of frequent replacements of lights. Due to the long burning hours of LED lights, the need to dispose of the old ones into the landfills reduces to a great extent.

•  The output of LED lights is highly focused and it is not scattered like traditional lights. Due to this functionality of LED lights, unwanted scattered lights are removed from the environment thereby reducing the Light Pollution.

•  The emission of greenhouse gases is very less from the LED lights to the comparison of traditional lights like fluorescent and incandescent bulbs.

•  LED lights are very well suited for both indoor and outdoor applications. These lights can withstand harsh conditions of outdoor environment.

LED lights better for environment

We have seen several advantages of LED lights and based on the advantages we can easily conclude that, LED lights are better for the environment.

Why Delhi is most polluted city in the world?

Delhi is the capital city of India. It is one of the most beautiful cities and it has several attraction sites like Qutub Minar, Lal Quila, Lotus Temple, India gate, Mughal Garden, Rajpath, and CP etc. In these days, Delhi is facing one of the serious problem of all time i.e. Air Pollution.  According to WHO, Delhi is the most polluted city in the world in 2014. In the last few Years, the particulate matter (PM) is increasing continuously and it causes several health problems for the residents of Delhi.

Delhi is most polluted city in the world

As per global standards, two types of PM are measured such as PM2.5 and PM10. Between the two, PM2.5 is very dangerous as it causes several types of health problems such as irritation in the eyes, nose, and throat, coughing, sneezing and shortness of breath, asthma, heart disease etc.

The toxic level of air pollution around the Delhi creates the danger for the breathing of human beings and for the climate as well. The average maximum temperature of Delhi in the winter season is notably decreasing from the last few years due to the rising level of air pollution. According to one estimate, more than 10,000 persons died in Delhi due to the air pollution only.

Major reasons for Air pollution

There are several reasons responsible for air pollution in Delhi. Few of them are briefly explained below.

•  Delhi is surrounded by two states i.e. Haryana from the 3 sides and Uttar Pradesh from one side. One of the prime reasons for bad air quality in Delhi is the burning of crops residue in these states by the farmers.

Delhi is most polluted city in the world

•  The 2nd reason for Delhi Air pollution is the over-population. Delhi is the most crowded city after Mumbai.  The over-population causes the more vehicles on the road and due to more running vehicles on the road, pollution has been increased.

•  The dumping of industrial wastes here and there and thereafter burning of these wastes also causes the air pollution.

Delhi is most polluted city in the world

•  Large-scale construction in Delhi NCR also causes dust and pollution in the air.

Solutions for pollution in Delhi

There are numerous solutions to fight air pollution. We are listed a few easy solutions mentioned below.

•  Drink adequate amount of water as it helps in flushing toxins from the body. Eat fruits that are loaded with vitamin C, magnesium, and fatty acids. These fruits are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds and help in boosting immunity.

•  Keeps some air purifying plants inside your buildings to protect yourself from the pollution. Plant more and more trees everywhere.

Delhi is most polluted city in the world

•  More and more people should use public vehicles like bus and metro instead of private vehicles like cars and scooters, as they can carry a lot more people in one journey. Carpool is also a good option.

•  Increase fines on vehicles not meeting pollution norms. Fine them as high as possible to create the fear of traffic police among all the peoples.

•  An anti-smog gun is very useful to control the air pollution. It acts like rain sprays water into the atmosphere and helps in settling the dust and other suspended particles.

Delhi is most polluted city in the world

The air quality is very poor in the Delhi and it is disheartening to hear that Delhi is included in the list of most polluted cities among the world. We have suggested few solutions to curb the air pollution but at the same time, every individual resides in Delhi should take few small steps to help the government in fighting against air pollution. Few small steps are plant trees in your locality; properly check your vehicles pollution, efficient use of electricity, use public transport and many more. Like we always say charity begins at home, we must take a pledge to do what we can do for our environment and protect it in the best possible manner.

Thanks for reading our article and I hope, all the residents should start doing their best to make our Delhi beautiful again.

How is the Greenhouse Effect related to Global Warming?

Global warming is closely related to the greenhouse effect and it is the crucial issue facing the world in the 21st century. In the last 5 decades, the average global temperature of the earth’s surface has been increased at a very rapid rate.  The term global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of earth’s surface and it also causes the change in the pattern of climate.

Greenhouse gases are the primary factors responsible for the greenhouse effect and it is closely related to global warming. There are six main greenhouse gases causing the greenhouse effect such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) & water vapour. Both natural and human activities contribute to the global warming. The presence of greenhouse gases especially the CO2 is the prime factor behind the increase of earth’s temperature.

Relation of the Greenhouse effect with Global Warming

The greenhouse effect is the natural phenomenon that maintains the temperature of the earth’s surface. This process is very crucial for the survival of human beings on the earth. The several steps involve in this natural process are as follows.

The natural process of the greenhouse effect is explained below

When the rays of the sun reach to the earth, then some of the sun energy is absorbed by the earth and rest is reflected back to the atmosphere by the earth. The energy reached the earth is absorbed by the land and oceans causing the heating of the earth. Greenhouse gases are present in the atmosphere. When the earth reflects the energy of the sun, then these gases absorb some energy and reflected back to the earth while the remaining energy returns back to space. Greenhouse gases trap some heat into the atmosphere keeping the earth warm enough to sustain life. Hence this activity is very important for the survival of human beings on the earth. This natural activity has no impact on global warming.

The Human enhanced process of the greenhouse effect is explained below

The natural process of the greenhouse effect is affected by the human activities especially the burning of fossil fuels, agriculture, and land clearing. These activities increase the thickness or concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.  The increased thickness of greenhouse gases causing the more and more sunlight radiated back to the earth’s surface and warming the temperature of the earth’s surface above the normal temperature. This factor plays very significant role in the climate change or global warming.

Factors responsible for global warming

Human-enhanced Greenhouse effect is responsible for global warming. Human activities are mainly responsible for the global warming although there are few natural activities also contributing to the global warming.

•   Human activities include activities such as deforestation, farming, excessive use of chemicals, burning of fossil fuels to generate the electricity or for the transportation etc. are the primary factors contributing to the global warming.

Greenhouse Effect related to Global Warming

•   Natural activities include aerosols from periodic volcanic eruptions, dust, and salt spray; natural carbon cycle processes etc.

Solutions for global warming

Human activities play major role in disturbing the natural process of the greenhouse effect and hence mainly contributing to global warming.  Carbon dioxide is the main enemy of the of the climate and our goal is simple i.e. minimize the emissions of carbon dioxide as low as possible.

There are several easy and effective ways that we all can perform and make the difference. We have summarized a few of them below.

•   Burning of fossil fuels contributes to the emissions of green house gases. Minimize the emissions as low as possible and use the renewable sources of energy like solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy etc.  The renewable energy sources have the potential to meet the requirements of energy hence by deploying renewable sources, the problem of global warming can be solved to a great extent.

Greenhouse Effect related to Global Warming

•   Avoid the deforestation and plant the trees as much as possible. Trees absorb the carbon dioxide.

•   The energy used to power our homes, businesses, and industries is another major contributor to global warming. Use the energy efficient appliances at home or office. Also, unplug the devices the devices in case of no use. By adopting this approach, we can save both energy and money.

•   Greenhouse effect is closed related to global warming and emissions from the transportation sectors especially carbon dioxide due to burning of fossil fuels have increased at a faster rate. Varieties of solutions like switching to low-carbon fuels and deploy more public transportation system in the nation etc. Use of energy efficient vehicles like the electric car or use the public transport will solve the problem of global warming to a large extent.
