3 Current Social issues:

Information is captured, processed, and communicated with new methods through the digitization process. As a result of digital technology, society requires a multidisciplinary approach while working on issues related to hardware and software.

In the transport sector, there are many trans-disciplinary approaches resulting from a close interaction between scientific disciplines.

Environmental issues cover a wide range of issues: products with low environmental footprints and respect of users, population growth, natural and industrial risks, and climate change, among others.

Human Rights and Social Problems:

Human rights standards and social issues are increasingly important to businesses, both as indicators of good corporate responsibility and in managing their risks and impacts.

Financial institutions have received guidance on how to address their impact on human rights through initiatives focusing on dialogues about finance and human rights.

With increasing frequency, the work will involve highlighting and consolidating the links between environmental issues and human rights in promoting sustainable finance and addressing social risks and opportunities holistically.

Equitable transition to a green economy is congruent with equity and inclusion.

Positive Aspects of Social Issue:

Diversity and inclusion of the workforce

Creating employment and training opportunities

Identifying and addressing complex local challenges such as crime, vandalism, and economic decline in local communities or among disengaged groups

Contributing to the growth and development of local economies by helping people become active members of their communities

Achieving the same opportunities for small, medium, and enterprise suppliers of social benefit.

Negative Aspects of Social Issues:

Conflicts and fights often arise between distinct groups of people because of various disputes.

Violating or going against societal values and ethics.

Different social issues also suffer from the disadvantage that they often hurt people's sentiments.

It is crucial to realize that not everything that happens in society can be classified as a social problem. Social issues are ones that are commonplace for the people in society, or when they burden the welfare system, violate societal values, and can be resolved by taking collective actions and using community resources. Human factors tend to be at the bottom of social problems, so the only solution to social problems is to address as many of them as possible.

Jyoti Jha’s book ‘Aanandi’ depicts the convergence of Literature and Cinema

In a live session ‘Impact of Literature on Bollywood’, Jyoti Jha, an HR-turned-Author discussed various aspects of literature and its influence on Bollywood. The panel consisted of famous TV actor Rahul Tomar and the session was hosted by RJ Jyoti Singh at the prestigious platform of Literia Insight.

In the ever-evolving and changing society where women are found holding high positions and ranks in various organizations and establishments; on the other hand, even today they are in a constant struggle towards finding their rightful place in the societal setup. Be it for their independence, self-reliance, education, or safety, there is a continuous battle against the resident evils of society. Standing against the patriarchal system which has been going on for centuries, and grappling through shameful acts of violence, dowry system, torture, inequality, etc., the scenario has not changed much over the decades for women.

In such a situation, trying to bring positive changes in society through writing seems a challenging effort. However, literature has always played a pivotal role in bringing fresh perspectives to thinking, conveying newer viewpoints to people, and connecting people with the untouched links of the society through literary landscapes and contributions of litterateurs. One such story ‘Aanandi’, by author Jyoti Jha, promises positivity in terms of women empowerment, education, and finding opportunity amidst adversity. The story emerges from a rural environment and shows the potential to bring a positive message to people in society.

While the literature has the power to convey positivity to society, the confluence of literature in cinema cannot be ignored. Be it Cinema, Television, or OTT Platforms, these mediums are always on the lookout for good stories and scripts that showcase the potential to impact society and be a guiding force in bringing necessary changes. The story of ‘Aanandi’ is suited for cinema and in the coming days, the book may be seen being adapted to the big screen.

In the session ‘Impact of Literature on Bollywood’, the panellists expressed their views on various aspects of literature, cinema, and their amalgamation. A multifaceted TV Actor, Rahul Tomar who has been associated with TV series like ‘Hamari Wali Good News’, ‘Krishna Chali London’, and ‘Crime Petrol’, conveyed the impact of stories picked up from the grassroots levels and portrayed on big screens. The actor hails from Katni, Madhya Pradesh.

Growing up in Bihar, Jyoti Jha’s childhood has been enriched with literature, and writing for her is a spiritual reflection of her contemplations and self-expression. Jyoti has been associated with the corporates like Infosys and Whirlpool and has contributed to English Literature through her books. Through ‘Aanandi’, the author endeavours to present a positive direction to society. The book is being published by PR Publications.

Every age has its own charm but despondently when it comes to old age, our society has taken a few steps backwards and tremendously failed to look at the bright side. When it comes to job opportunities, many so-called good companies slam the doors for experienced & wise people. If the elderly tries to join a new course, apply for a job, join as a club member, visit his/her child’s office, accompany their grandchildren, our society gives stupefying reactions.

The love and tenderness which a newborn gets, the same is required for our older population but they are woodenly shunned. It’s disgraceful to see the rampant emergence of old age homes in a country that is well known for its morality. A nation wherein the people have a deep reverence for priests, saints and are good at debating over what’s right and what’s wrong but turn gibberish towards the elder population. How one treats the (known/unknown) elder population tells a lot about a person's ethical value.

Here is the list of reasons which will justify why we need to revamp our modern thinking for our old population

Old Age is an Asset

Whether it is wisdom or experience, elderly people are on the upper edge. I have worked with a 35 y/o employer and 75 y/o employers and realized where more sincerity, maturity, calmness, balance, ethics, and consciousness lie on. It’s not a generalization, but, due to deep focus and attention retention, elderly people have the ability to think more intelligently and ethically. For example, PM Modi, Ratan Tata, Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Soman have proved that age is just a number and are gleefully sharing their blessings with others.

Some people are young at 80 while others are old at 18

Due to the influence of the virtual world and too many indoor activities, the youth is comparatively less active than it used to be. The elder population is much smarter in managing multifarious tasks as compared to the youth. But the emphasis is always focused on youth which stands for naivety, hasty judgment, and lack of discernment. The biographies of the famous old men and women suggest that they have continued their productive activities into the years well beyond the normal span of life.

Old age implies one has more wisdom & life experiences

Indeed, age is the dawn of wisdom. Life is short to have bad experiences, and we must learn from the mistakes of others. The elder population is much more involved in the inner world than the outer world, therefore, they have much more to offer. One is more likely to acquire life-related wisdom from their grandparents, elderly family members, teachers, employers, and seniors.

 Old people are much needed

Some employers shut down the doors for the people who are 40+ as the emphasis seems to be on youth. If the employer replaces their shallow thinking and realizes that the elder people are not selling their age, rather willing to share their skills, talents, understanding, and wisdom gathered over the years on the marketplace of life. Whether it is school, college, office, and home, we need old people for their guidance, love, and blessings. We need them more than they need us. It’s our time to help them to welcome the change gracefully.

✔ Old People are young by mind and spirit

Old age is often regarded as a second childhood, but they are not given the same amount of care and admiration as a child. Whether it is in the workplace or at home, society wants to get rid of them. They should not be asked to resign or leave because of their age, as it is the time when they could be more useful in the organization or home. They don’t need your money; they just need some emotional support. They usually don’t react to the tantrums and chaos as they are tapped in their spiritual world and have the ability to think justly and meekly.

 Starting over a new venture

We must not let our older population become the prisoners of society rather we must motivate them to be a producer. It’s never too late to set and start over a new dream or goal. Madame Ernestine Schumann- Heink, reached the pinnacle of her musical success after she became a grandmother. Isaac Newton was hard at work close to 85. Socrates learned to play musical instruments when he was 80 y/o. George Bernard Shaw was active at 90 whereby the artistic quality of his mind had not relaxed from active duty. It’s our obligation to provide the healthiest and peaceful environment to our senior citizens.

One of the first things a new mother needs to learn to do is to check the temperature of her baby. Even if your baby has never had her temperature taken before, you may find that it becomes a routine when she seems ill. Checking your baby's temperature can be done in many ways. This article discusses the different methods of determining your baby's temperature.

You may want to check the temperature of your baby when:

Your baby looks pale and sick

Your baby is too warm

To check your babys health status

You notice fever symptoms

What should your baby’s ideal body temperature be?

Normal temperatures in babies can range from 97 to 100.3 degrees Fahrenheit. An elevated temperature of greater than 100.4 degrees F is considered to be a fever by most doctors.

How to check your baby’s temperature?

As your child grows, the method you use to take the baby's temperature will likely change. Below are the different ways in which you can check your baby's temperature.

➕ Rectal temperature

You may find it squeamish to take your baby’s temperature rectally, but it is the best and most accurate method of taking a newborn’s temperature. Here’s how:

Lubricate the thermometer tip with petroleum jelly.

Turn on and lay your baby on their back on a flat surface or changing table.

Carefully insert 1/2 inch to 1 inch of the lubricated tip into the anal opening. Gently push and avoid forcing.

Be sure to hold the thermometer for a few seconds until it beeps or shows a reading.

In cases like where you cant take your newborn's temperature rectally, you can also take it under the arm or using the forehead.

 Temperature under Arm

Here’s how to check your baby's temperature using their underarm:

You may want to remove your baby t-shirts for ease of access. Ideally, the thermometer should only touch the skin-not the shirt.

Activate the thermometer and place the thermometer tip under your babys arm.

Make sure that the thermometer stays in their hand by folding their arm closed.

Be sure to hold the thermometer for a few seconds until it measures or beeps.

When a reading exceeds 99 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, it is considered to be a fever.

 Temperature by Ear

Here’s how to take your baby’s temperature by ear

Make sure you read the thermometer's instructions to determine how far you should insert it into the ear for a proper reading.

Turn the thermometer on and carefully place the tip inside the ear canal, and do not force it in too far.

The thermometer should start beeping or shoe the readings.

It is considered to be a fever when your babys temperature is 4F or higher.

 Forehead Temperature

Turn the thermometer on by pressing and holding the scan button.

You should gently sweep the device over your baby's forehead while touching it on the skin and read the temperature.

It is considered to be a fever when your baby’s temperature is 4F or higher.

 Oral Temperature

Oral readings are typically reserved for children 4 and up since babies have difficulty holding an oral thermometer under their tongue. Before you take your baby's temperature orally, make sure you wait 15 minutes after they have eaten.

Turn on and place the tip of the thermometer behind your baby's tongue.

Make sure they have their mouth closed.

Wait for the thermometer to display the reading.

When a reading exceeds 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, it is considered to be a fever.

How to regulate your baby's body temperature

The ideal range for your babys room temperature should be between 20-20 degrees Celsius. So set the temperature right.

Dress Your Baby right. You want to make sure that your baby stays warm in winter by dressing him in a footed sleepsuit that ensures his feet and legs stay warm. Put a vest underneath the sleepsuit if the room is colder than average.

To provide your baby with comfortable, restful sleep, you may require to wrap him in a thick baby blanket. If your bub is not a big fan of a baby blanket, keep his hands and legs warm with mittens and socks.

Keep the Wind off your baby by shutting the windows when it is extremely cold outside.

Women’s Emotional Abuse: Everything You Need to Know

POST CREDIT: Badlav Seva Samiti

Domestic abuse is indeed a form of emotional abuse. If you are not physically harmed, you may not believe you are being mistreated. However, emotional, and verbal abuse can have just as devastating short-term and long-term consequences as physical violence.

Emotional abuse can occur at any moment in an individual’s life. Women who are children, teenagers, or adults are all subjected to emotional abuse.

Emotional abuse is any type of abuse that is not physical in origin. It can range from vocal abusive behaviour and continuous criticizing to more subtle techniques like manipulation, intimidation, and a willingness to never be satisfied. It can be seen in multiple ways. Denial, aggression, and minimisation are three typical types of abusive behaviour.

This can be destructive to relationships, and everyone involved. Just because there is no visible scar does not imply the abuse isn't real or that it isn't a serious issue or even a criminal in certain countries.

Since there is no defined term for emotional abuse, it might have a definition that goes beyond psychological abuse and verbal abuse. Humiliating, blaming, and name-calling are just a few examples of verbal abuse that may have an emotional impact on a victim.

Verbal abuse impacts and even damages the victim's self-worth and mental well-being, resulting in an emotionally traumatized victim. The sufferer may suffer from serious psychological effects.

It would also include brainwashing methods, which may also be classified as psychological abuse, but emotional abuse includes manipulating victim's emotions.

The victim may believe that the abuser has influenced their emotions to such an extent that the victim is unable to recognise their own feelings about the issue or issues that the abuser is influencing. As a result, the victim's self-concept and independence are gradually lost.

Emotional abuse is sometimes referred to by experts as psychological abuse or "chronic verbal aggression." People who have experienced emotional abuse have poor self-esteem, changes in personality (such as withdrawing themselves from things they like doing), and may even become nervous, suicidal, or depressed.

Emotional abuse can occur unexpectedly. Some abusers may begin by behaving normally and then begin abusing after establishing a connection.

In the beginning of a relationship, some abusers may purposely flood you with affection and attention, including praises and desires to see you frequently.

The abuser frequently attempts to make the person feel deeply attached to them, as though the two of them are “against the world.”

Here are few examples of emotional abuse:

⚠ Verbally attacking the victim.

⚠ Having control over what the victim has to do and cannot do.

⚠ Keeping personal things from the victim.

⚠ Intentionally causing the person to suffer.

⚠ Made to feel inferior or humiliated.

⚠ Keeping track of the partner's location and time.

⚠ Yelling at her for not having a child/ not having a male child.

⚠ Compelling the victim that she is insane.

⚠ Undermining the victim's self-esteem and/or confidence.

⚠ Making fun of the victim in public or in private.

⚠ Restricting the victim's access to money or other essential assets

⚠ When the abuser tries separating victim from their family and friends.

⚠ Interfering with the partner's ability to work.

Accusations, verbal abuse, name-calling, critiques, and gaslighting undermine a victim's sense of self over time to the point where they can no long see themselves truly.

As a result, the victim may tend to agree with the abuser and develop internal criticism. When this occurs, the majority of victims get stuck in abusive relationship, feeling that they'll never be good enough for anybody else.

How to deal with emotional abuse?

Prioritize yourself: When it concerns your emotional and physical wellness, you must prioritise yourself. Stop trying to please the one who is assaulting you. Take care of your own requirements.

Or do something to encourage you to stay positive and reinforce your identity.

Additionally, make sure you get enough rest and eat nutritious foods. These basic self-care actions can help you cope with the day-to-day difficulties of emotional abuse.

✔ Setting Boundaries

Tell the abusive individual that they can no long shout at you, call you names, disrespect you, be nasty to you, or do anything else. Then, inform them of the consequences of engaging in this activity.

Tell them, for example, that if they insult you or call you names, the discussion will end, and you will walk out of the room. The important thing is to stick to your principles when it comes to setting boundaries.

Know it’s not your mistake and doesn’t blame yourself: If you've been in an emotionally abusive relationship for a long time, you might think there's something horribly off with you.

However, you are never the issue. Abusing implies making a choice. Stop punishing yourself for something over which you have no power.

✔ Stop fixing your abuser

Regardless of how hard you try; you would never be able to fix an emotional abuser by doing or being better. An abusive individual makes the decision to be abusive.

✔ Avoid Explaining yourself

Do not interact with someone who is abusive. In other terms, if an abuser attempts to create an issue with you, insults you, expects things, or rages with jealously, do not try to explain, comfort their feelings, or ask for forgiveness for something you did not do.

If possible, walk straight away from the situation. Interacting with an abuser simply leads to more harassment and heartbreak. You will never be able to make things right in their eyes, no matter how hard you try.

✔ Work on ending that relationship

Try moving away from the situation. Dealing with an abuser just increases the pressure and misery. No matter how long it takes, you will never be able to make things right in their eyes.

Depending on your circumstances, you might have to end the relationship. Every case is unique. So, talk to a trusted friend, family member, or counsellor about your thoughts and ideas.

Emotional abuse can have deep impacts, but it can also serve as a starting point to violence and physical abuse.

Hi readers! We are here again with another episode on different types of the family system in India. In this series, we are going to cover different family systems in India i.e., small family, big family, nuclear family, joint family etc. We have already covered two topics among the topics mentioned above and it has been seen by more than 1 lakh+ viewers. If you are interested to read those blogs, here I am sharing the links of those two blogs as well.

In this blog, we are going to discuss, what is a nuclear family? its advantages & disadvantages and what is our thought on the concept of the nuclear family.

These days, the concept of the nuclear family is more prevalent in society and now the families prefer the nuclear family over the joint family. The next question is “what is the meaning of nuclear family”, so according to sociology & anthropology, the simplest meaning of the nuclear family is the parents’ child relationship consists of an adult couple and their children. Through these couples are usually male & female but now the definition of the nuclear family further expanded and added same-sex marriage as well. The child of the nuclear family not only includes their socially recognized children but also via biological offspring or adopted by a couple.

Benefits of Nuclear Family

Here are the benefits of the nuclear family.

> Financial Stability

Having a nuclear family reduces the family expenditure substantially giving more financial stability which further creates more opportunities. Such families can afford more expenses on child education, healthy food & lifestyle, etc. According to the survey conducted, 57% of nuclear families are above the poverty line, and in that case, they can enjoy much more in their life and can opt for a good lifestyle too. In addition to this, children can uprise in their career if they get quality education & required resources that help them to crack better opportunities.

> Harmony & peace

Keeping harmony & peace in the family or within the house is very essential. It helps in promoting the optimum environment for human potential to flourish in all situations be it personal, social & economic. Conflict can arise in any family at any time, but it is necessary to be solved at the earliest to maintain the healthiest atmosphere in the family. Fewer members in the family mean fewer chances of conflict, thereby fewer chances of disturbance.

> Is it give better opportunity for them to have a good lifestyle?

The obvious answer to this question is yes. The possibility to achieve financial freedom is more in the nuclear family in comparison to joint family thereby enabling them to expense more on their lifestyle, food, child education, extracurricular activities, vacation, health, etc.

> More time & space for Women

In nuclear families, females have more time & space to enjoy their life. They can enjoy their spare time post performing their household duties. As the number of members in the nuclear family is fewer requiring fewer tasks to do, means more free time.

Small Family Happy family

The concept of a small family works well in nuclear families. As the parents have to bear all the responsibilities & expenses of raising children enabling them to have one or two children maximum.

Disadvantages of Nuclear Family

Here are the disadvantages of the nuclear family.

> No Helping Hands

As we discussed earlier a nuclear family means adults & their children only, so the adults have to take care of everything. They are responsible for the nurturing of the child plus jobs, and household work too. They do not have much personal time and sometimes, they also become annoyed and irritate with their daily life routine.

> Hire Maid to take care their child

The next disadvantage of having a nuclear family is when to hire a maid for taking care of the children or leave them in the church if both parents work. In such situations, parents cannot be sure whether the nurturing of their kids happening properly or not.

> Insecurity at the Old Age

There is always insecurity in the nuclear family. As the parents grow older, and as they have followed the nuclear family concept indirectly teaching their children to opt for a nuclear family as well. If the parents do not have a retirement amount, they have to face problems in their 2nd innings (old age).

> Child Insecurity in the nuclear family

As in nuclear families, parents have to take care of everything, so in such cases, they both work to uplift the living standards and in doing so, they are unable to give attention to their children. Owing to this, a child starts feeling abandon, socially isolated & alone and unknowingly sometimes they also join the company of wrong people that leads them to the wrong path.

> Economical Losses

If you are part of a joint family, then there are several breadwinners or helping hands in the family that support each other and by their collective efforts, the family income rises upwards. Division of joint family into the nuclear family leads to the property division followed by the increase in the expenditure such as they have to buy all the resources individually for their livelihood be it the fridge, washing machine, TV, and many more.

> Conflict Resolution Skills

Conflicts are the part of parcel of each family, and it is inevitable. You cannot stop them completely whether you stay in the joint family or the nuclear family. There is an advantage of having a nuclear family as the fewer members in the family leads to fewer chances of misunderstanding but at the same time, there is a disadvantage too. When you have a joint family, then different persons bring different opinions & ideas that help in solving conflicts which is not possible in the nuclear family.

> No Support in the emergency time

Life is full of ups & downs, and we cannot predict “what is going to happen next”? It seems perfect in the nuclear family if everything goes in the right direction but sometimes one obstacle breaks the foundation of the nuclear family and put them into crisis.

> Nuclear Family Crisis

Another disadvantage of nuclear families is the increasing number of divorces which is less likely to happen in a joint family. The future of a child is in a great dilemma if divorce occurs in the nuclear family.

Prevention is better than cure and I am sure you are aware of this. In this blog, we are about to see the symptoms of dengue on babies, preventive measures & healthy tips for a speedy recovery.

Dengue is a viral disease that occurs due to the bite of a mosquito known as Aedes Aegypti. It is also called break-bone fever as the one who suffers from it feel severe pain in the body. It mainly spreads in monsoon season & in the tropical & sub-tropical areas that are more prone to this viral disease. It is mostly found in central & south America, parts of Africa & Asia, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.

Warning signs & dengue symptoms on babies

The dengue symptoms on babies are primarily asymptomatic in nature in almost 80% of cases and it normally takes 3~5 days to appear after the infection. Early detection is very important and here is the symptoms list that can help everyone for the early detection of dengue.

➦ Flu-like illness

In most cases, the dengue symptoms on babies begin with the negative effects linked to virus-related flu, for example, high-temperature fever, running nose tiredness, etc.

➦ Change in behaviour of the child
