6 Ways to Relieve Stress in an Hour Or Less

With hyper-connectivity in today’s day and age, stress is inevitable and uncontrollable. With more than half of the world’s population under pressure, and not knowing how to get out of this toxic cycle, a vast majority of the population has started to experience the side effects of stress. Staying under constant stress is like opening the gateways to different physiological and psychological diseases. In my case, the symptoms have ranged from headaches, severe back pain, anxiety, and depression to even chest pain at times.

6 Ways to Relieve Stress

With hectic routines, it has now become impossible to take out more than a few hours to relieve stress. I used to find the solution to my stress at the end of a bottle, but that contributed to different health problems. It was then that I realized that I had to make significant lifestyle changes. Here mentioned below are the 6 best ways to relieve stress that helped me with stress management and with turning my life around.

1.     Cut Back on Social Media

In the present-day and age, we spend most of our day on our phones for one reason or another. Unlike TV channels that you can turn off, social media bombards you with information that you might not want to know. While it is a good habit to stay up to date, certain events are out of our control and knowing about them won’t make a difference. Instead, it will cause stress. I started cutting back on social media use throughout the day, and the results that I saw were miraculous. Not only did my stress levels decrease drastically, but I also had a more positive outlook on life.

6 Ways to Relieve Stress

2.     Marijuana Strains

While the word marijuana might cause your pre-existing bias to arise, you should keep reading. There are different strains in the market that have been medically approved by the FDA for various stress-related illnesses. While it might be hard to believe, depending on the strain that you choose, you can get the extra energy you need to get through the day. You can also choose a strain that can help you relax and go to sleep, reduce weight as well as anxiety levels. Some of the best marijuana strains that you can try are AK-47, purple space cookies strain, blue dream and more.

6 Ways to Relieve Stress

3.     Avoid Toxic People

Toxic people are another major reason for stress. Social media has made it easier for people to bully others without facing repercussions. You should try to disconnect from people that induce stressful emotions. Sometimes people might not be toxic to you, but their stress might rub off on you, and you might face undue and unnecessary stress throughout the day.

6 Ways to Relieve Stress

While it is a humane and empathetic thing to be there for people under duress, you shouldn’t guilt-trip yourself if you think you need to cut back. If you’re not in optimum mental condition, you won’t be of any use to any of your friends either. Remember that you need to be at peace to help other people.

4.     Keep a Journal

Writing down what you feel can be an effective way of catharsis, and it can help you out a great deal. Most of the time, we feel stressed out because we can’t express our emotions, for example, anger, love, hate, and irritation. If you keep a journal with you at all times, you can vent whenever you need.

6 Ways to Relieve Stress

I used to feel stressed when something went wrong at work, and I couldn’t stand up for myself, and I had to stay quiet because I knew that I needed the job. It was then that I started this practice and it helped. Even more stressful than being wrong is when you don’t have any good comebacks at the moment, and when you’re about to relax, your mind suddenly goes into an overpowering mode. Writing down about what happened and comebacks that came to my mind helped with the clarity of my thought process and contributed to my outspoken personality.

5.     Don’t Strive for the Impossible

Always remember that you’re human and not superman. Unlike him, you can manage a full-time career and save the world from its ultimate doom. Set realistic and achievable goals for yourself and strive to attain them. Most people end up being their own worst bully when they can’t manage to get the work done. Remember there are a limited amount of hours in a day and there is only so much that you can do in 24 hours. If you have realistic goals, you’ll be at peace and be more productive at work rather than just dreading the day and letting it pass by.

6 Ways to Relieve Stress

6.     Intimacy

With the increase in social media connectivity, people are now more alone than ever. Loneliness is a leading cause of stress and can contribute to unhealthy mental conditions. While people have hundreds of friends and followers online, they are disconnected from the people around them. With apps dictating every part of our lives and telling us who to date when to have sex, who to hang out with, it won’t be much longer before we end up losing control over our lives and becoming the robots we all fear will one day take over

6 Ways to Relieve Stress

Remember to take time out for friends, family, and loved ones, spending time with them can be an effective stress buster. Spend the weekend at your parent’s house or have a surprise date night with your partner. Try to share the feelings that you have for one another in order to be at peace.

The above-mentioned steps have helped me a lot, and I hope they help you too. Sometimes in order to get back into life, you need to disconnect from the people around you. Remember that it isn’t selfish to want something for yourself. You should make decisions based on what is good for your mental and physical health. While people may take it the wrong way, your loyalty first lies to you, and then to the people around you. If you aren’t in good health, people around you will also get annoyed and irritated, so you should try to manage your stress before you start socializing.
