What is the History of World Population Day?

World Population Day is the international event being celebrated globally on 11th July. This day is celebrated to raise the awareness of the people towards the worldwide population issues and the 2019 world population theme is yet to be decided. It was first begun in the year 1989 by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This day was first considered in the year of 1987 when the population of the world crossed 5 Billion in 1987. 

This year marks the 51st anniversary of the 1968 international conference on human rights where family planning considered the human right first time. The document made in this conference named as Trehan proclamation stated- “Parents have a basic human right to determine freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their children." Women must have the rights to avoid the exhaustion, depletion, and danger of too many pregnancies.
