Population explosion is one the biggest problem of the world in
the 21st century. There are several factors responsible for this population
explosion and the most important factors are poverty & illiteracy. The
resources available on the earth are limited and with the continuous growth of
population, these resources are depleting very fast and maybe not available in
the near future as well.
To address the problem stated above, a day has been observed known as World Population Day. It is an
annual event observed on 11th July every year. The main objective of this day

population day was “family planning is a human right”. The theme of 2019 world

the public interest when he was working in the world bank as Sr. Demographer.

What is the History of World Population Day?
World Population Day is the international event being celebrated
globally on 11th July. This day is celebrated to raise the awareness of the
people towards the worldwide population issues and the 2019 world population
theme is yet to be decided. It was first begun in the year 1989 by the
Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This day
was first considered in the year of 1987 when the population of the world
crossed 5 Billion in 1987.
This year
marks the 51st anniversary of the 1968 international conference on human rights
where family planning considered the human right first time. The document made
in this conference named as Trehan proclamation stated- “Parents have a basic
human right to determine freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their
children." Women must have the rights to avoid the exhaustion, depletion,
and danger of too many pregnancies.

support family planning by ensuring the supply of contraceptives to strength
the national health system. As per them, family planning is not only the human right

of a child, pregnancy happens when desires & wishes of every young’s
person must be fulfilled.

Acceptable
The information & services related to the contraceptive must
be provided in a dignified manner by considering the modern medical ethics

full autonomy, free of pressure, coercion or misrepresentation.

leading causes of ill health and even the death of pregnant women

infections, baby health, and right to health, etc.
